This workshop will introduce you to some basic concepts and practices that will make flower painting a little less intimidating. Students will begin with studying the structure and form of flowers using a monochromatic palette. With a solid foundation of drawing structure and value, adding color becomes much easier. We will focus specifically on how to simplify complex forms by squinting, following a clear value design, and thinking in geometric forms. We will also discuss selecting flowers and arranging them simply to create beautiful compositions for painting. Students will work from still-life setups and in an alla-prima or wet-into-wet style, which builds confidence and painting skills quickly. This workshop will be an illuminating and inspirational introduction for the aspiring flower painter. All experience levels are welcome.
