If you were in sports, your coach would tell you to practice like you play. If you want to increase your performance, keeping a sketchbook should be a part of your practice. Whether you want to use your sketchbook as an art journal, to practice and learn new drawing skills, or to sketch out ideas for larger paintings, this class is for you!
In this class, students will explore fundamentals of drawing and painting through the practice of keeping a sketchbook. We will experiment with different mediums – felt-tip pen, marker, colored pencil, water-soluble pencil, gouache and watercolor – as well as different subjects and techniques. We will also explore techniques for combining mediums to create interesting mix-media effect.
Keeping a sketchbook is a fantastic way for artists of all ages to learn and develop creatively. Students will learn how a sketchbook can be a place to explore ideas, practice techniques, be imaginative and even capture moments from daily life. We will focus especially on drawing from observation. Each class will build on the lessons of the previous week and feature lots of group discussion and instructor demonstrations.
