This one day workshop is designed for people interested in exploring soft pastels as a painting medium. Whether you are new, have explored on your own and feel frustrated, or have used pastels and just need a boost to get going again, this is the class for you.
Dawn will instruct how to best use materials and surfaces for certain effect. She will demonstrate the foundation of getting a great pastel painting with value sketches and basic composition. Students will learn to use the medium for mark making, layering, and color combinations. No previous pastel experience is needed.
Participants are encouraged to bring any soft pastels they have for their own experimentation, plus a small sketch book, 5×7 or smaller, wet wipes, apron or appropriate clothing and several landscape reference photos for their painting. They should print one in color and one in B&W on regular printer paper.
