Relief sculpture is done on a flat surface and the three dimensional forms are flattened to create the illusion of light and shadows. Students will create a portrait in sculpture “relief” of a human or animal of their choice. The oil based clay, Chavant, and sculpting tools will be supplied. Chavant clay does not dry or get fired but is meant to be cast. This class does not include casting.

  • Bring your photo source to personalize your sculpture and learn how to model the form in relief.
  • Learn how to design elements to heighten the three dimensional form in your composition.
  • No supplies required, just bring multiple side view photo references.
