SUMMER ART CAMP

We offer two camp styles: Traditional and Digital Arts. Traditional art includes: graphite, charcoal, or colored pencil drawing, oil painting, armature sculpting. Digital art has an emphasis on creating anime, animaton, manga art on a digital tablet and stylus but is not mandatory. Each day will include a skills-building lessons: Art elements, Design Principles, Color theory, value drawings, and more. The studio offers a pressure-free environment meant for fun and exploration. Each week ends with an Art Show on Friday where students proudly display and present their artwork. Enroll without obligation.

DRAWING

Students will learn how to brainstorm ideas, create a dynamic composition, and how to develop it using various materials.

OIL PAINTING

Students will choose what genre to paint, how to use color theory, value keys, and brushwork to create a 16×20 canvas.

SCULPTURE

Students will create an inspiration board for their 3D project, create a plan view for the armature, sculpt and then paint.

DIGITAL ARTS

Students will create a daily progression by creating their characters for a presentation of the week’s artwork.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the camp size?

All weeks are open for registration, so signup and enroll for the week you want. Once the minimum requirement of four students enroll, Pike13 will email a purchase request and payment will secure your child’s spot. If you have chosen a week that does not meet the minimum, an email will be sent to you from Pike13 that it has been canceled. I will usually know a week in advance if the camp will close.
The maximum number, due to Covid-19, is 8 students and if a week looks full, add your name to the waitlist.

How does payment work?

We start all the sessions with waitlists and when the minimum number of campers are met, we will add your child to the chosen week and request payment. Sometimes a week will fill up quickly, sometimes at the last moment. You are welcome to choose any number of weeks with the option to enroll. A final payment will confirm your child’s spot in the camp.

Are camp tuitions refundable?

Camp must go on for the others, so if your confirmed camp week has been paid for but the student is unable to attend, you may find another week to enroll. Tuition in nonrefundable.

What project will my student complete?

The goal for Traditional Art Camp is to have one main project that will occupy appoximately 10 hours of the 15 hours we have together. Because everyone is individual, the students will choose their project. With that said, every student will vary and every project will be different so you can expect at least one sculpture, oil painting, or drawing. The younger kids move more quickly so sometimes they may create additional pieces. The goal for Digital Art Camp, is for students to photograph each day’s work and create a short animation of their progression through the week.

Are snacks provided?

Students are welcome to bring snacks and drinks. We do have a hot/cold water cooler. There is a Thursday donut day where students will get a donut which they then have to do a still life drawing/painting of, yum! Please advise us if any food restrictions apply.

What is the Art Show?

On Friday of every camp week, our students hold an art show to share all their weeks efforts. We are so proud of them as they arrive with nothing but ideas and work out problems to achieve a finished work of art. There are struggles but we have fun solving problems so it doesn’t seem difficult at all. The art show allows each artist a voice beyond the artwork they are presenting, and I am always so impressed!

What is the studio environment like?

The Art Studio is a working environment with lots of supplies for the students to try. We want all students to get the most out of their visit so we invite them to pursue different types of art and mediums between working on their projects. There are opportunities for a self portrait, still life donut drawing and watercolor, life model drawing session. Students are welcome to experiment with a variety of mediums: markers, watercolor, pastels, oil paint, charcoal, graphite, sculpey polymer clay and acrylic paint.
The students bring a different vibe and tempo each week, so we remain flexible to make it a wonderful experience.
